Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple Unveils Striking Accompanying Video For 'Tomorrow Is Yesterday'

Following on from releasing his critically praised new single ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’, Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple has just revealed the sombre accompanying music video – shot and directed by the artist himself.

Adding to his growing repertoire of DIY video clips, ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’ encapsulates the lyrical content of the track, portraying the mundane and often taxing everyday realities, through Groundhog Day-inspired visual storytelling. Created on a budget of just forty dollars, the black-and-white clip was shot throughout parts of the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, using a combination of clever production techniques including drenching his own Go-Pro in coffee and underwater takes shot under a jetty.

Timi describes the creative process behind the clip:

The concept was originally triggered from my lyric “I’ve got friends on the carriage, but I don’t know their names”. I thought about everyday repeating your steps and you get better and better at doing the same robotic thing. This then led to a Groundhog Day style epiphany where I realised I’m only getting better at doing a thing I don’t want to be doing. Obviously that spurred all these bad memories of things that have happened on my daily commute, like getting sneezed on, getting bird poo on you and coffee spilled on you. I was reminded of a time when someone sneezed on me on a train, instead of berating them and avoiding trains forever, I just brought tissues in my pocket from then on to prepare for someone else. This video is like a dream, going and exacting my revenge on all these people, ha ha!"

Folk-Roots singer-songwriter Michael Waugh new album release ‘The Weir’..insightful storytelling

Michael Waugh’s new album ‘The Weir’ reaches up from the dried, cracked heart of Gippsland’s irrigation reservoir - Lake Glenmaggie - asking what it means to grow up Australian. It is family ‘carguments’ on long holiday drives to see the big things of Australia, mozzie-bitten itches of first summer loves, Meldrum-fuelled familiarity of Aussie rock classics, and the lived-in love of dinner with your partner in front of Neighbours. But it is also about what lies underneath – our underbelly laid bare by the drought; the distances that drive us apart, the economic devastation of rural communities, the death-wish of boys in country towns, the spectres of colonisation, racism and homophobia.

The Weir’ is Michael Waugh’s third album. It follows ‘The Asphalt & The Oval’ (winner 2018 The Age Music Victoria Awards ‘Best Folk and Roots Album’) and 2016’s ‘What We Might Be’ (Golden Guitar Award nomination 2017) and is Michael’s third studio project with multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winning producer Shane Nicholson.

Michael Waugh gives a profound new voice to the Australian experience. His insightful storytelling cuts to the heart of everyday life. It is honest, emotionally brave and compelling in its beauty. His insightful tributes to friends, family and parenthood are simultaneously deeply personal and nationally recognisable; audiences see their own brothers, parents, pubs, rivers, struggles and joys reflected in the faces of those characters who live large in Michael's songs.

Queensland singer/songwriter Robert Cini new single ‘Different Road’ from debut album "Imaginary Fun"

Award-winning Singer/Songwriter from Far North Queensland Robert Cini announces his new single ‘Different Road’ off the soon-to-be-released debut album "Imaginary Fun".

The sunny Jack Johnson like island vibes captivate a listener into a toe-tapping free-fall of melodic bliss. This is in part contrast to the weighty-personal inspiration behind the infectious tune, stemming from Robert’s struggles with feeling ‘Different’ to those around him due to his vision impairment, something he’s had since birth. The lyrical content is however made fun, light and widely accessible.

Robert says “Different Road” is both a very personal and relatable song”.  “Anyone that feels a little different and out of place, or has life a bit tougher than normal, I think will relate to this song”.

Marty's review: this instantly infectious song from Robert Cini has an upbeat and positive vibe about it that will draw listeners in and create a spark in the brain. With an island/reggae feel to it, the production is crisp and bright and Robert's songwriting skills are fresh and focused. There is certainly something in that far-north Queensland air!

Aussie Troubadour Thomas Keating Shares Soul-Baring Single "Today I'm Staying Home"

Melbourne-based singer/songwriter/troubadour Thomas Keating recently released his new single “Today I’m Staying Home,” a nakedly self-referencing song with themes of depression and self-care during times of stress and uncertainty.  As vulnerable and open as a diary entry, “Today I’m Staying Home” is a carefully crafted spotlight on a world that’s completely his own. Gentle guitar pulses atop a bed of driving percussion, as his strikingly clear vocals anchor the guitar-driven song. Produced by Gordon Burke and featuring Keating on guitar, Jenny McCullagh on violin & vocals, Gavin Perkins on bass and Tim Parsons on drums, the single will be available digitally February 1. Keating is also sharing a video to accompany the track, filmed during the recording process of the single.

Keating explains: “Today I'm Staying Home is inspired by one of those mornings where you wake up with the ‘f*ck its’, and you decide instead of leaving your bed or home to face your life and all the responsibilities that come with being an adult in this world, you just stay in. I've always struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety around the uncertainties and pressures of everyday life, and I guess at the time I wrote the song I was going through such a phase. I think it’s important to remember that at times it's okay just to feel like shit - it's okay to put your hand up and say 'I'm not dealing with this very well. I need help'. Mental health is extremely self-alienating, and I'd like to think that we are moving past the stigma of shame that has hung around such ailments for far too long.”

“‘Today, I’m Staying Home’ is a glorious, anthemic paean to cocooning from a prodigious new talent.  A rippling acoustic bedrock underpins Keating’s open heartfelt singing and chorus as wide and open as the Simpson Desert. This is a catchy, jaunty pop song whose lyrics are contrastingly tinged with a hint of regret and melancholia born out of internal struggle and pain.” Backseat Mafia

Hounded Unveils Dreamy New Single and Video For 'Hollow' Ft. Panama and Tour

Sydney-based producer Hounded (real name Edan Visser) has just revealed tour dates and his spirited new single ‘Hollow’ ft. Panama.

Hollow’ is an elegant, drenched-in-melancholia slice of indie-pop. Opening with eclectic instrumentation and the endearing melodies of Panama, the track gently builds before bursting into a flurry of bouncing rhythms and colourful walls of synths. The deftly arranged song never loses sight of its infectious and uplifting energy.

Hounded describes the motivation behind the track:

I was originally trying to write this uplifting little pop track, but Panama’s lyrics were dark and melancholic, screaming of love loss. That wasn’t how I heard the song at all. But I ultimately realised that these two ideas can coexist in sound, because they coexist in life. Someone may be going through a breakup and listen to the record and relate to what Panama is saying and feel some kind of connection to it. While others may hear the uplifting instrumentation and feel a sense of joy. We really tried to capture and contrast both elements because they exist together in the real world”.

Hollow’ ft. Panama is the latest step in a career that only kicked off three years ago. Hounded grew up playing rock and metal on guitar, but that all changed when he discovered electronic music channels like Majestic Casual and Mr Suicide Sheep on YouTube. Inspired, he started to tinker on his own bedroom tracks with the aim to be uploaded to them one day (he got his wish in 2016 when Majestic Casual featured 'Feel So Right').

Normie Rowe....Frenzy! The 50th Anniversary Collection...30 track compilation

Norman John Rowe AM (born 1 February 1947) is an Australian singer and songwriter of pop music and an actor of theatre and soap opera for which he remains best known as Douglas Fletcher in 1980s serial Sons and Daughters. As a singer he was credited for his bright and edgy tenor voice and dynamic stage presence. Many of Rowe's most successful recordings were produced by Nat Kipner and later by Pat Aulton, house producers for the Sunshine Records label. Backed by his band, The Playboys, Rowe released a string of Australian pop hits on the label that kept him at the top of the Australian charts and made him the most popular solo performer of the mid-1960s. Rowe's double-sided hit the A-side, a reworking of the Doris Day hit "Que Sera Sera" /with b-side "Shakin' All Over" was one of the most successful Australian singles of the 1960s.

Between 1965 and 1967 Rowe was Australia's most popular male star but his career was cut short when he was drafted for compulsory military service (called National Service in Australia) in late 1967. His subsequent tour of duty in Vietnam effectively ended his pop career and having never been able to recapture the success in music he enjoyed at his peak in the 1960s, instead carving out a career in theatre and television.

The beautiful voice of indigenous singer-songwriter is silenced...a very sad loss...tribute post

I have taken this from the Putumayo World Music Facebook page:

We would like to remember the great Aboriginal singer-songwriter, Dr. Yunupingu, who died this week at the age of 46. We have refrained from using his first name and image in respect for Aboriginal traditions. Dr. Yunupingu was born on Elcho Island off the coast of Australia and became a voice for indigenous peoples on the global stage. He was a talented multi-instrumentalist, but his true gifts were his voice and words. His multi-platinum albums recorded in his native tongue of YolĹ‹u and English raised awareness of Aboriginal music, culture and issues around the world.

(this video does not contain any images of deceased people and highlights the colour and beauty of the Australian landscape of which the indigenous people of this country belong)

He was a unique voice in the world; we’ll always enjoy his music and honor his legacy. If you wish to learn about or support the Dr Yunupingu Foundation in support of Aboriginal communities, please follow the link below:

Sydney-based artist Dead Language unveils captivating debut EP "Like Heart"..electro-pop grooves

“The song is a wildly infectious, upbeat groover of a track that actually deals with deceptively serious lyrical themes.” THE MUSIC (AUS)

“It's bold and brave and the arrangements are great.” Dom Alessio - triple j (AUS)

Featured by Rolling Stone Australia

After releasing a collection of critically praised singles, Sydney-based electro-pop artist, Dead Language aka Dominic Price, is excited to unveil his impressive debut EP ‘Like Heart’ – recorded at Coogee’s Yap Yap Studios.

CLICK TO STREAM 'LIKE HEART' and Watch the Video HERE

‘Like Heart’ sees Price explore new creative realms, by combining 80’s-esque synths likened to A-ha and Dare with snappy instrumentals and crisp production likened to E^ST and Patrick Wolf and a hint of 90’s electronica.

Price describes the inspiration behind the EP – “All the songs found here were written while I was living in a share house in Leichhardt, Sydney. I wanted to immortalise that part of my life and pay tribute to the suburb that had yielded so much musical fodder for me, hence the homophonous ‘Like Heart’. It was in that house that I had first fallen in love, that I had went to recover, and yet that I had also met my darkest demons. The EP is a patchwork. It’s my (therapeutic) attempt to make something beautiful and whole from the pieces left of a fractured period in my life, like an old hand-sewn quilt. It’s my attempt to capture the extremities, the mundanities, the everything-in-betweens of being in your early twenties.”

Since Dead Language’s inception in 2014, Price has consistently released critically adored singles, which have been strongly supported by the likes of Rolling Stone Australia, Pilerats, Happy, triple j Unearthed, FBi and the hype machine blog community.

Solomon O - Hypnotic Debut Single "Holograms" with amazing video

Since picking up a guitar at an early-age, Brisbane-based musician, Solomon O has formed a deep and insatiable love for writing and performing music. Fast track to the present and that endearment remains undeniably strong as he launches his new stunning debut track ‘Holograms’.

CLICK TO LISTEN TO 'HOLOGRAMS'

‘Holograms’ was a complete DIY recording effort by Solomon O and friend / session drummer, Brandon Gillies, and tracked between his Brisbane home studio and on the NSW Central Coast at The Grove. The mesmerizing indie-pop cut glides along effortlessly, driven by its luscious and full sounding rhythm section, beautifully composed synths and capped off by Solomon O’s dream-laden and soothing croons.

Growing up, Solomon O learned classical guitar and piano and later found himself joining a gospel band, which taught the musician the fundamental elements of arranging and composing songs. After a brush with a drug-fueled party lifestyle, the song-smith did a complete 180 turn by undertaking and completing a psychology degree.

Following on from university, Solomon O decided to pack up his life and move to London. After what he describes an ‘early-life crisis’, he moved back to Australia, choosing Sydney as his new home where he started working on ‘Holograms’ and a collection of other songs he plans on releasing soon.

These days the enigmatic creative finds himself back in his hometown of Brisbane and slightly more settled; indulging in spending most of his pay check on new instruments and recording equipment.

Paul O'Gorman..Poet and the Painter..singer songwriter's only album from 1978

Paul O’Gorman was an unknown quantity when he entered the 1976 Australian Popular Song Festival. Former Cherokees guitarist Doug Trevor believed in Paul’s abilities as a performer and the two began writing songs together. When they entered the Festival in '76 they thought they were in with a chance, though they faced stiff competition from some big names, including Steve Groves and Beeb Birtles.

Paul presented Doug's composition of 'You're More To Me' at the 1976 Australian Pop Song Festival. They succeeded in winning second place. In 1977 they re-entered the Festival and this time they won with a song entitled 'Ride, Ride America'. From there they took the number to the International Song Festival in Tokyo and took off two of the major prizes — Best Song and Best Song Performance.

What happened to Paul after making the final that year was a short but great journey into the world of pop stardom. He enjoyed a couple of hit singles, played to international audiences and cut a lone LP, The Poet And The Painter (Infinity Label), before leaving it all behind to work behind the scenes in publishing, management and entertainment law.

Stevie Wright..Hard Road...1974...blockbuster solo debut from legendary Easybeats singer

Stevie Wright's first taste of fame was with the now legendary 60's group, The Easybeats. Together with Harry Vanda and George Young, they created some of the most memorable and iconic music to come out of Australia in the 1960's. They rivaled The Beatles in their talent and success and scored an international hit with "Friday On My Mind".

After the breakup of The Easybeats, Stevie went solo and released his debut solo album, Hard Road, in 1974. Produced by none other than his former Easybeats partners, Harry Vanda and George Young, the album was a huge success in Australia, topping the charts everywhere.

Hard Road is without question Stevie's finest hour, and it remains one of the best Australian albums of the period. The classic Vanda-Young tracks -- the autobiographical "Hard Road", "Didn't I Take You Higher?" and the epic "Evie" were ably complemented by Stevie's own strong compositions "Movin' On Up", "Commando Line", "Life Gets Better" and "Dancing in the Limelight".

Stevie's groundbreaking debut solo single "Evie (Parts I, II and III)" is a genuine rock epic. It is arguably the perfect rock'n'roll song, encapsulating the three basic themes of all love songs -- (A) "Baby it'll be great once we're together, (B) "Baby, it's so great now that we're together" and (C) "Baby, it's so bad since you left me". Clocking in at a whopping eleven minutes in total, it seemed an unlikely chart contender, but the three parts were wisely split across the two sides of the single, and the head-on power rock of "Evie Part I" proved irresistible. Lyrically, it revisited the perennial "gonna have a good time tonight" theme of "Friday On My Mind" and "Good Times" and musically it is perhaps the ultimate distillation of the full-frontal hard rock Vanda & Young had previously essayed on V&Y classics like "Good Times", and showcased the no-frills hard-rocking sound which they would soon hone to perfection with AC/DC.

Released in May 1974, Evie shot to the top of charts, peaking at #2 nationally during July. It did especially well in Melbourne, where it stayed at #1 for seven weeks. The Hard Road album also peaked at #5 nationally and #1 in Melbourne. It was released on Atlantic in the USA and Polydor in the UK and made a strong impression overseas -- Suzi Quatro later covered "Evie", and Rod Stewart included a version of "Hard Road" on his Smiler album. "Evie" is now widely considered to be one of best Australian singles of Seventies.

To promote the records, Stevie hit the road with his aptly-named backing group, The All Stars. The band's lineup shifted several times during its existence but it featured many top-flight players including Warren "Pig" Morgan (piano; ex-Chain, Aztecs), Tim Gaze (lead guitar; ex-Tamam Shud, Kahvas Jute, Ariel) and Johnny Dick (drums; ex-Meteors, Doug Parkinson In Focus, Aztecs).

Dylan Wright's debut single "Ocean Eyes" Singer-Songwriter from Sydney's Southern Beaches

Dylan Wright is a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist brought up on Sydney’s southern beaches and has been likened to acts such as Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley & Ben Harper. Still only in his 20’s, Wright’s songs and vocals deliver a uniqueness and maturity well beyond his years. His smooth vocals and storytelling lyrics have been capturing audiences around the country and they find themselves easily immersed in his songs.

Dylan Wright’s new track OCEAN EYES was co-written with Canadian musician, Andy Brown, and marks the debut single release from Wright’s new EP, THE LONG WAY HOME. With folk and blues influences, Wright’s smooth and catchy vocal melodies establish a mellowed atmosphere that draws the listener into the story of the songs which is underpinned by simple guitar lines, a walking bass and shuffling drum.

OCEAN EYES has been lucky enough to have had a sync on the ‘Possible Worlds: U.S. & Canadian Film Festival’ commercial which aired around Australia in August. Earlier this year Wright was invited to perform a showcase at Canada’s East Coast Music Awards conference where he had the opportunity to connect with musicians and people in the industry whom have many years experience. Wright has had the pleasure of playing alongside many talented musicians over the past few years which include (but are not limited to): Dragon, Ian Moss, Diesel, Tim Chaisson (CAN) and Joshua James (USA). A string of live dates will be announced soon in support of OCEAN EYES and Wright’s new EP.

Johnny Rebb and His Rebels - Pathway To Paradise (The Leedon Anthology 1958 - 1960)

Johnny Rebb (born John Delbridge, 1939) was a mild mannered Sydney butcher's apprentice who got caught up in the swirling high tide of rock 'n' roll attention which followed his win of a theatre talent quest.

Crafty manager, Syd McDonagh, kept Johnny busy with club, suburban dance and private functions work, while he pursued a recording deal with the aid of an acetate disc bearing a primitive version of Bobby Helm's "MY SPECIAL ANGEL", EMI took him on for one single (Johnny B Goode/Rebel Rock) but lost interest when it failed to leap into the charts. Late in 1958, McDonagh approached the young Leedon Records; operated by flamboyant entrepreneur Lee Gordon to carry releases from indie American labels. They took Rebb on as their first local artist and a cover of Dough & Rusty Kershaw's "HEY SHERIFF" was rushed out for the Christmas market. It hit #15 in Sydney and #28 in Melbourne, earning Johnny a spot on Six O'Clock Rock and generating a strong female following.

From the outset, Johnny's image and recordings were at odds. Shy, well mannered and conservatively dressed, he was dubbed the 'Gentleman of Rock' by press and DJ's, and to cater to this, Leedon deliberately split the contents of his records between energetic rock and mellow ballads. However, in a live situation, he could get on with the best of them, ably abetted by his fiery young backing unit "The Rebels", Comprising Johnny Burns (drums), Johnny Charters (piano), Sonny Neville (guitar), Keith Williams (bass) and the highly regarded Jimmy Slogget (sax).

Johnny Rebb was the first Australian artist to be signed by Lee Gordon's Leedon label in 1958. (N.B. — Leedon released more hits by Australian artists than any other label in the late fifties and early sixties.) Johnny's immense Sydney popularity was reflected by the top thirty charting of "COME ON LET'S GO" before the first hit even begun to dip. By the time "PATHWAY TO PARADISE" (an original) was issued in June (a national top ten) he was off on tour through the virtually uncharted regions of Victoria and Queensland. Lee Gordon cross-promoted the records by giving Rebb the support stint to TOMMY SANDS. His popularity grew to such a high point that he was chosen to compare episodes of "Six O'clock Rock' while Johnny O'Keefe was in America.

At the very end of 1959 Johnny scored his final national hit with "HIGHWAY OF LOVE" (on the Lee Gordon rather than Leedon label). By the time he moved over to CDB/Cornet, Gordon's two labels had issued 5 singles. 3 EPs (Come On Let's Go, Highway Of Love, Hit It For Six) and an album (Some Swing, Some Sweet). His second Coronet (CBS) single, "THINK ME A KISS" in 1960 (backed with Carl Perkins' L-O-V-E-V-I-LL-E) made top ten in Sydney. Shortly after, he tried his hand in America and one single for Dot (BILLY BLUE SHOES). Returning home in 1963 he continued recording for CBS under producer Sven Libaek, his first effort being a fine version of Ronnie Self's AINT I'M A DOG. By 1964 he had joined forces with surf instrumental kings (turned R'n'B powerhouse) The Atlantics

By 1966-67, Johnny was singing unaccredited on The Atlantics extraordinary 'punk' singles for Festival. He finished the decade off with some moderately interesting Ramrod label issues under his own name and spent most of the early seventies overseas. Johhny Rebb died on July 28, 2014.

Jim Keays 1946-2014 RIP....an Australian rock legend whose career spanned 6 decades

..another Aussie music legend has left us..we remember you Jim and the contribution you made to Australian music history....

VALE JIM KEAYS: 1946-2014

“Jim had an aura about him; you always knew when he was in the room,” is how the best remembered of the bass players that passed through the ranks of The Masters Apprentices, Glenn Wheatley, recalled singer-songwriter and the one constant throughout the entire Masters’ existence, Jim Keays, who succumbed, at 10.30am, Friday 13 June, to pneumonia from complications resulting from a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Keays was 67.

As a special tribute, this is Jim's highly acclaimed solo album from 1974 with the hit title track "Boy From the Stars".

..you're a legend, Jim...now you're up there with the stars...
