Melbourne Art-Rock artist Halfbeak LP release "Innocent Bystander"...ambient punk and electronica

Halfbeak is prolific Melbourne singer-songwriter Tim Gum. From his beginnings in the early 2000's as 3RRR demo of the month-winning “Snowbug” to his most recent EP “Things I Knew”, which was co-produced by fan and APRA award-winning composer Damien Lane, Tim Gum has written and recorded enough quality material to fill 25-plus LP's. “Innocent Bystander” is the first of many planned LP releases and consists entirely of music written in 2019.

Promotional track “Curvature Of The Spine” is a meditative Sonic Boom-meets-Scott Walker number. The second promotional trackI’ll Be Your One-Way Mirror” is the dark alter-ego of “For The Benefit of Mr. Kite”. Elsewhere, the LP spans electronica, hip hop and art-rock, capturing a broad mix of influences including Kid A, Erik Satie, The Residents, Endtroducing and Blackstar. Lyrically, the LP explores some dark themes. Although decay, destruction, disease and death abound, the work retains the humorous and playful spirit that is core of much of Halfbeak’s backlog. Conceptually, the album comments on the bewildering life choices we sometimes make, and the feeling of powerlessness that some of us feel when the consequences spin out of control.

Genre: Art-Rock, Ambient Punk, Experimental Electronica

Hounded Unveils Dreamy New Single and Video For 'Hollow' Ft. Panama and Tour

Sydney-based producer Hounded (real name Edan Visser) has just revealed tour dates and his spirited new single ‘Hollow’ ft. Panama.

Hollow’ is an elegant, drenched-in-melancholia slice of indie-pop. Opening with eclectic instrumentation and the endearing melodies of Panama, the track gently builds before bursting into a flurry of bouncing rhythms and colourful walls of synths. The deftly arranged song never loses sight of its infectious and uplifting energy.

Hounded describes the motivation behind the track:

I was originally trying to write this uplifting little pop track, but Panama’s lyrics were dark and melancholic, screaming of love loss. That wasn’t how I heard the song at all. But I ultimately realised that these two ideas can coexist in sound, because they coexist in life. Someone may be going through a breakup and listen to the record and relate to what Panama is saying and feel some kind of connection to it. While others may hear the uplifting instrumentation and feel a sense of joy. We really tried to capture and contrast both elements because they exist together in the real world”.

Hollow’ ft. Panama is the latest step in a career that only kicked off three years ago. Hounded grew up playing rock and metal on guitar, but that all changed when he discovered electronic music channels like Majestic Casual and Mr Suicide Sheep on YouTube. Inspired, he started to tinker on his own bedroom tracks with the aim to be uploaded to them one day (he got his wish in 2016 when Majestic Casual featured 'Feel So Right').

Brisbane-based independent musician Laura Louise impressive debut single "Storm in a Teacup"

Brisbane based, emerging Folk/Pop/Alt Country artist Laura Louise recently released her debut single and video "Storm in A Teacup". Think young Taylor Swift meets P!nk and they head to a campfire to write some tunes together. SWARÉ returns with his broody dance floor filler ‘REMEMBER’ ...electro beats and catchy choruses

We first heard from Swaré back in August with his eminently dance-able debut ‘I Want You to Move’ and now he’s back and ready to set dance floors across the country aflame with ‘Remember’.

Listen via Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/i amsware/remember

The latest offering from the emerging Australian artist takes a different route from his debut release without losing any of the things we love about Swaré: slick vocals, big electro beats and oh so catchy choruses.

Produced by ARIA-nominated Michael McGlynn (L-Fresh the Lion, Little May) and co-produced by Toby Chew Lee of MOZA, Swaré’s ‘Remember’ offers up a smooth, sexy dance pop sound sonicaly whilst exploring deeper lyrically.

“’Remember’ definitely has more meaning for me personally”, Swaré explains. “It’s the first time I’m actually singing about stuff that happened to me that isn’t just about going out and dancing. I don’t think it’s a particularly dark track necessarily, there’s just more emotional stuff going on there. I still want people to dance to it.”

No need for concern there! Wrap your ears around this one and let the music do all the work. Swaré has delivered the goods yet again.

Rare Finds Announce East Coast Circuit For Emerging Artists featuring songstress Ayla and guest artists

Sydney-based boutique PR & artist management company, Rare Finds are proud to announce their new East Coast touring circuit launching in January 2018 – Presented by Oporto and Pilerats, and supported by Mountain Goat Beer and Arthur St. Studios.

The Rare Finds circuit will showcase curated line-ups of Australia’s most-promising emerging talent once a month across the East Coast. It’s the next progression for Rare Finds after the agency has been successfully running nights in Brisbane and Sydney over the past two years.

Managing Director of Rare Finds, Rob Carroll describes the motivation behind the project:

“The Rare Finds nights serve to foster a scene within the Australian indie community and provide a strong live platform for outstanding emerging artists. One of the biggest challenges faced by artists, managers and agents at the early stages of an artist’s career, is developing a live following. With the launch of our Melbourne event, we’re now able to provide an East Coast touring platform to new acts, so they can play to ready-made crowds, which largely consist of industry, taste makers and the core local indie community”.

The first circuit run will be headlined by QLD Sunshine Coast-based artist, Ayla, who has just revealed new single ‘Porcelain Doll’ and news of her forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Let’s Talk Monday’ (due January 12) – produced by Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music). Ayla is currently performing for sold out crowds as national support for Kim Churchill's ‘Weight Falls’ album tour.

Desert Moons unveil melancholy debut single ‘ROUGH TRADE’

NSW Central Coast-based indie-electronic duo, Desert Moons (Brothers Jake and Simon Dobson), have just revealed their self-produced debut single ‘Rough Trade’ - recorded at their home studio.

Combining beautifully crafted organic and electronic instrumentation, ‘Rough Trade’ is a stunning eclectic piece of experimental-electronica that melds themes of dark dream-pop, indie-rock and hip-hop; taking cues from the likes of their staple influences Radiohead, M83 and Daniel Johns.

Stream the track on Soundcloud HERE

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jake Dobson describes the creative process behind ‘Rough Trade’ –

“This track was originally an idea of Simon’s conceived in our home studio. We sent it back and forth to each other over a period of a week, until it became what you hear today. We had a lot of fun with this song. We tend to always produce our favourite works when we’re evenly collaborating. The lyrical theme is an ode to my past struggles with motivation. Writing songs has always been an incredibly therapeutic process and this was certainly no different; ultimately serving as a catharsis.”

Both Jake and Simon have been playing and performing music since an early age. They’ve worked as session musicians in the studio and live, as well as releasing music and touring the world with their bands. Desert Moons is the first project the brothers have collaborated on as a duo and was formed with the intention of exploring song crafting boundaries. They’ve written and recorded over thirty songs, which they plan to roll out over the coming months.

To celebrate the release of their debut track, the group have also announced their maiden performance to take place at Rare Finds #33 held at Oxford Art Factory’s Gallery Bar, Sydney on Friday September 29.

RAAVE TAPES unveil angsty new single ‘k bye’ and national tour dates

2016 triple j Unearthed ‘This That’ competition winners and Newcastle crowd favourites, RAAVE TAPES, have just returned with their raucous new single ‘k bye’ and announced national tour dates.

‘k bye’ tells a tale of adolescent debauchery, engulfing the listener in an atmospheric haze reminiscent of a suburban house party. Recorded in a Newcastle basement by close friends Fraser Marshall and Jack Clark, and mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301 (Flume, Empire of the Sun), ‘k bye’ captures the raw energy of the Newcastle-based trio’s notoriously wild live shows.

Front man Joab Eastley describes the inspiration and story behind the song –

“The track was inspired a few years ago at a Newcastle house show ~ when I was a much younger, much more naive version of myself. It was a Sunday night, I had work in the morning, so I was just stopping in on my way home. It's subtly opening a dialogue about the inextricable links between illicit behaviour & underground youth subcultures ~ all wrapped up in a neat little party track. And no, the irony isn't lost on us.”

“This is 2 minutes and 45 seconds of pure swaggering fun”
- 4/5 Stars
Gen Fricker - triple j (AUS)
“2 U xoxo is pleasantly raw, grinding along with enough attitude to force you to stomp your feet and bang your head at"
Pilerats (AUS)

The band’s most recent single, ‘2 U xoxo’, garnered strong support from the likes of triple j, FBi, MTV, key Australian blogs and the Hype Machine blogging community. In between recording and releasing new music, the band have maintained a strenuous live schedule, playing Mountain Sounds Festival 2017 and performing alongside the likes of Hockey Dad, Winston Surfshirt, The Gooch Palms, Polish Club and Skegss to name a few.

To celebrate the release of the new track, RAAVE TAPES will traverse the country in October performing in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Muswellbrook, Wollongong, Canberra and Melbourne, initiating new bassist Lindsay O’Connell into the band. The trio have also teamed up with local sponsors to produce a mini-festival in Newcastle on Sunday August 20, aptly titled RAAVE TAPES Shut Down The Argyle House, featuring twenty artists across three stages, including Good Boy, VACATIONS and Kwame.

‘k bye’ is available worldwide via Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and all other good digital retailers

Sunshine-Coast Indie-Pop quartet Selahphonics' new single 'Had Our Heaven'

Carving out a reputation as one of Australia’s hardest working independent indie-pop bands, Sunshine Coast-based Selahphonic recently unveiled their new single ‘Had Our Heaven’ – The lead track lifted from their forthcoming and debut EP ‘Therapy’ - Recorded at Cooper Lane Studio, Sydney by Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Tigertown, Middle Kids).

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO 'HAD OUR HEAVEN'

Keeping in line with their signature anthemic stadium pop sound, ‘Had Our Heaven’ glimmers with synth-laden hooks, infectious lead-guitar licks and is backed by a simple, yet sturdy and bouncing rhythm section; all combining to complement the catchy sing-a-long melodies of endearing front man, Jamie Coyle.

Since their inception in 2011, Selahphonic have released a slew of standout singles widely embraced by various media platforms, including tastemaker blogs Crack in The Road (USA), Acid Stag (AUS), Pilerats (AUS), stellar reviews and rotation via triple j Unearthed and other key support from the likes of MTV, Tone Deaf and The Music.

In 2016, the group maintained a consistent touring schedule, including a performance at Australia’s largest music industry conference, BIGSOUND, where they caught the attention of one of the countries most esteemed booking agencies, The Harbour Agency, who signed the quartet immediately.

As well as constantly traversing through local live music venues, Selahphonic have put together DIY backyard show tours and performed globally, which includes appearances at showcases and festivals Culture Collide, CMJ and Canadian Music Week.

“A solid attempt right here at the stadium pop sound of The Wombats and Two Door Cinema Club."
Dom Alessio – triple j (AUS)
“Selahphonic have captivated listeners’ attention with their own unique and energetic power-pop vibes."
Happy (AUS)
