Sydney-based indie-rock artist Timi Temple New Single 'Quick Words, Long Trouble'

Sydney-based indie-rock artist Timi Temple has returned with another rousing anthem in ‘Quick Words, Long Trouble’, produced and recorded by the artist himself.

The track opens up with purring flange guitar lines and woody drum rims, before expanding into a frenetic pre-chorus enveloped by Timi’s psychedelic screams. The choruses open up like a classic lighter-in-the-air era Brit-Rock sing-along, highlighted by a swift change in tempo and chunking rhythm guitars.

Timi talks about the meaning behind ‘Quick Words, Long Trouble’:

“’Quick Words, Long Trouble’ is my first song about love. I’ve generally tried to avoid writing songs about love because I think it’s been rinsed enough times by other artists. However, this song was cathartic and therapeutic to me as it helped me through a long-term breakup. The phrase is something that my mother used to tell me, somewhat translated from Thai meaning ‘don’t do anything in heated anger because the repercussions will last forever’. It’s served me well, but also probably lead to me not fighting for a salvageable relationship because I was too cautious with my words. The spoken word poem in the bridge of this song reflects this”.

Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple Unveils Striking Accompanying Video For 'Tomorrow Is Yesterday'

Following on from releasing his critically praised new single ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’, Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple has just revealed the sombre accompanying music video – shot and directed by the artist himself.

Adding to his growing repertoire of DIY video clips, ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’ encapsulates the lyrical content of the track, portraying the mundane and often taxing everyday realities, through Groundhog Day-inspired visual storytelling. Created on a budget of just forty dollars, the black-and-white clip was shot throughout parts of the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, using a combination of clever production techniques including drenching his own Go-Pro in coffee and underwater takes shot under a jetty.

Timi describes the creative process behind the clip:

The concept was originally triggered from my lyric “I’ve got friends on the carriage, but I don’t know their names”. I thought about everyday repeating your steps and you get better and better at doing the same robotic thing. This then led to a Groundhog Day style epiphany where I realised I’m only getting better at doing a thing I don’t want to be doing. Obviously that spurred all these bad memories of things that have happened on my daily commute, like getting sneezed on, getting bird poo on you and coffee spilled on you. I was reminded of a time when someone sneezed on me on a train, instead of berating them and avoiding trains forever, I just brought tissues in my pocket from then on to prepare for someone else. This video is like a dream, going and exacting my revenge on all these people, ha ha!"

Sydney-based R'n'B artist A.GIRL stunning debut single ‘2142’ - endearing and intricate

Western Sydney-based R'n'B artist A.GIRL recently unveiled her stunning debut single ‘2142’ - produced and mixed by Taka Perry (Ruel, M-Phazes).

Opening with its steadfast beat and arpeggiated guitars, the endearing and intricate cadences of A.GIRL float effortlessly above, as the track builds into its brooding chorus of warped bass-infused synths.

The track takes cues from the likes of Urban luminaries SZA, Jhené Aiko and Jorja Smith, and samples the actual recording of a young woman known to A.GIRL being arrested by police. It’s an all too common scene in the 2142 postcode area.

"The song is about the area I was exposed to and the things I saw first-hand. As much as it represents 2142, it’s an anthem for all people from all areas that have been through the same” says the vocalist.

A.GIRL is the moniker of 19-year-old Hinenui-Terangi Tairua. Although she calls Australia home, the connection to her family’s Maori homeland of Te Hapua in the north island of New Zealand runs deep.

When she’s not writing and recording music, A.GIRL volunteers for the OzHarvest Food Bank, where she helps deliver food to people in need across Western Sydney.

Sydney-based artist Nathan Cavaleri new single '29 Gold Stars' and EP Release Date

Following on from releasing a pair of critically praised singles, Sydney-based artist Nathan Cavaleri has just revealed tour dates and latest cut ’29 Gold Stars’ – another gripping number lifted from his forthcoming debut EP ‘Demons’ (due May 31).

Channeling the strut grooves of Prince, understated vintage tones of J.J. Cale and hybrid hip-hop type arrangements, ’29 Gold Stars’ shines a light on Nathan’s ability to shape songs eclectically, while still retaining apt cohesiveness.

Nathan describes the motivation behind ’29 Gold Stars’:

My head was in the gutter when I wrote this track. Fascinated by the relationship between desire and shame. The change in topic was a nice break from the usual emotive pieces I write. As an artist, I need this balance”.

Previous singles ‘Demons’ and ‘Rising Sun’ were widely embraced by Spotify and the likes of Australian radio stations triple j, double j, ABC Local Radio, SYN FM, JOY FM, RTR FM, Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ, 979FM, Bay FM, Edge FM, 2XX FM, The Pulse and various others. The tracks also received support from Australian tastemakers and blogs such as Pilerats, Music Feeds, The Music, The AU Review, Savage Thrills, AAA Backstage and Forte Mag.

Hounded Unveils Dreamy New Single and Video For 'Hollow' Ft. Panama and Tour

Sydney-based producer Hounded (real name Edan Visser) has just revealed tour dates and his spirited new single ‘Hollow’ ft. Panama.

Hollow’ is an elegant, drenched-in-melancholia slice of indie-pop. Opening with eclectic instrumentation and the endearing melodies of Panama, the track gently builds before bursting into a flurry of bouncing rhythms and colourful walls of synths. The deftly arranged song never loses sight of its infectious and uplifting energy.

Hounded describes the motivation behind the track:

I was originally trying to write this uplifting little pop track, but Panama’s lyrics were dark and melancholic, screaming of love loss. That wasn’t how I heard the song at all. But I ultimately realised that these two ideas can coexist in sound, because they coexist in life. Someone may be going through a breakup and listen to the record and relate to what Panama is saying and feel some kind of connection to it. While others may hear the uplifting instrumentation and feel a sense of joy. We really tried to capture and contrast both elements because they exist together in the real world”.

Hollow’ ft. Panama is the latest step in a career that only kicked off three years ago. Hounded grew up playing rock and metal on guitar, but that all changed when he discovered electronic music channels like Majestic Casual and Mr Suicide Sheep on YouTube. Inspired, he started to tinker on his own bedroom tracks with the aim to be uploaded to them one day (he got his wish in 2016 when Majestic Casual featured 'Feel So Right').

Sydney-based screaming rap-rock-electro-pop mutants Redhook unleash new single ‘Paralysed’

Sydney-based screaming rap-rock-electro-pop mutants RedHook recently unleashed their brand-new single, ‘Paralysed’ - produced by Stevie Knight (Trophy Eyes, Stand Atlantic) and Dave Petrovic (Northlane, Tonight Alive) and mixed by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, The Ghost Inside).

Paralysed’ sees the band showcase their more melodic side, twisting their signature cocktail of EDM-influenced production and psychotic riffage with huge dark pop vocals, as singer Emmy Mack turns her aggression inward.

Anyone who’s ever struggled with their mental health will understand the feeling that this song is about, probably all too well,” Mack explains.

It shines an ugly but very real spotlight on those dark periods when depression and anxiety is crushing you - and inside you’re just screaming at yourself to snap out of it and get on with business, but physically - you just can’t. It’s like you’re incapacitated, you can’t even move. You’re fighting as hard as you can but you feel paralysed.”

Their previous single ‘Turn Up The Stereotype’ was supported via Spotify with over 100K streams, triple j Unearthed rotation, multiple spins on triple j (2018 With Richard Kingsmill, Good Nights, Home & Hosed, short.fast.loud & more), and a coveted 5-star Unearthed review from presenter, Bridget Hustwaite. The official music video was also added to rotation on ABC’s Rage.

Australian music charity MMAD (Musicians Making A Difference) recently announced the latest release by Sydney-based international recording and performing artist D Minor. His new single Concrete Pillow, featuring Alli Simpson gives insight into his troubled childhood and experiences with violence, homelessness and overall life struggles.

Many years in the making, he started penning they lyrics at an early age to escape hardship and cope with his turbulent family life. “Concrete Pillow talks about my life, and what I've been through - the pain and struggles I had to endure as a child, becoming homeless, placed in foster homes, and shuffled between refuges," he reveals.

A music journalist recently wrote that “D Minor is on the rise and is one to watch”.

Despite being homeless by age 11, kicked out of school soon after, and then as a 14-year-old was heartbreakingly separated from his twin brother when they were placed in separate foster homes, D Minor has amazingly managed to overcome adversity and rise to success. Now eagerly completing his degree at the Australian Institute of Music, D Minor reveals he had coincidentally reunited
with his brother at a refuge two years after they'd been torn apart. "We reconnected and ensured we sticked together throughout the rest of our time in refuges," he adds.

As his love and passion for music became his salvation, his passion for inspiring young people through his music also grew and he regularly started performing for youth events and charities.

Also featured on the single is 20-year-old Gold Coast singer, model, actress and host Alli Simpson. Having released three of her own singles in recent years, Alli has a huge social media following and has lent her voice to anti-bullying initiatives, enjoying using her public profile to positively impact people. Having also experienced homelessness firsthand, Alli says when the opportunity arose to work alongside D Minor on Concrete Pillow she jumped at the chance.

Sydney-based surf band Forest Hall recently released their new single and music video “Broke Forever”. This is the first offering from the bands sophomore EP. Broke Forever serves as an anthem for the youth with relatable lyrics and themes. Written in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, it’s quite easy to feel the bands character and drive behind the release.

Singer-songwriter Ally Palmer new single release 'Under The Night Sky'..folk/pop with style

Sydney’s multi-instrumentalist folk singer-songwriter Ally Palmer is thrilled to unveil her new single 'Under The Night Sky' which radiates her true love of nature's beauty by transmitting her catchy, chilled out surf vibes. It leaves you dreaming of breaking away from your everyday routine, getting out into blissful mother nature and travelling the beautiful coastline Australia has to offer.

'Under The Night Sky' was inspired by travelling on the road in a near retired van and learning to go with the flow when things don't turn out as planned. The van has taken Ally on some life changing adventures from the freedom of driving along Australia's East Coast to breaking down unexpectedly, leaving her stranded in small coastal towns and having to change her plans.

The track was produced and recorded on the Gold Coast by Donovan Lee at Untitled. Music Studio and mastered by award winning Paul Blakey of 12th & Vine Post with credits such as Amy Shark's 'Adore' and Bearfoot's 'Feed My Soul'.

Emerging from her roots as a keyboardist performing in various blues/ jazz/ soul bands throughout NSW and QLD, Ally developed the desire to take centre stage by writing and pursuing her own original music taking influences from Bruce Springsteen, Jack Johnson and Paul Simon. When Ally isn't away travelling, she is playing regular live shows accompanied by Donovan Lee on Drums and Sam Besmehn-Burt on Electric Guitar.

After the release of her debut EP ‘Runaway With Me’ in 2016, Ally went on an East Coast Tour of Australia. The tracks from the EP were well received attracting radio airplay Australia wide and securing Ally a spot on the Byron Bay Bluesfest 2017 line up. Ally is currently working on a new EP, stay tuned for details of it's release.

Sydney-based emerging rock band Grill release debut single "Heart of the City"

Grill are an emerging Rock band whose performance bravado and improvised grooves have gained a committed following. They recently released their debut single ‘Heart of the City’ at The Factory Theatre. The lyrics describe the bitter sweet harmony between living in the city and the peaceful serenity of their homes (Blue Mountains and Northern beaches).

The song begins with a homage to modern jazz fusion, contrasting the bright and lively guitar melody with lush chordal accompaniment. The verse speaks of mixed experiences within the chaotic metropolitan whilst the chorus illustrates the crimson autumn leaves and the saline breeze of the harbour, a reminiscence of home. The solos conclude the comparison and their awareness of the coherent nature of the city.

Not just a band that rocks, but a band that makes you think”, Willem, host of Retro Rehash (Blue Mountains Radio).

Grill consists of Jarrah Dhyan and Andres Rodriguez on Rhythm and lead guitar, intuitively they communicate through their instruments to Kalon Captain, whose fusion grooves blend well with Robert Mouat’s souring vocals and bass guitar, to complete the ensemble.

‘Heart of the City’, Recorded at Q-Studios (AIM) will encapsulate audiences with its musical diversity and progression. ‘The Eternal Presence’ - Grills’ debut album is set for release in May, 2018.

Sydney electronic producer Mickey Kojak goes electronic eclectic on his new Surrender EP

Sydney electronic producer Mickey Kojak returns with a six track genre-bending record Surrender, featuring a bunch of tasty new tracks including his latest single Watch Me Drown.

Listen to the EP HERE

The Surrender EP opens with the ominous I'm Not The Right One (INTRO, for those watching closely), a track that welcomes us into his most lyrical release to date, with a gradually building synth arp swelling into the opening notes of his new single. Watch Me Drown see's Mickey bring the tempo and mood into previously unexplored territory. While the track powers along with synths and drums more reminiscent of his earlier house records, the vocal brings these two worlds together, depicting a desperate scene of internal struggles and a constant uphill battle, reaching it's climax in the final chorus in a huge wave of emotion and sound.

Alongside the powerful singles that Mickey has released, the EP is filled with hugely experimental pieces that tie his sophomore record together. Both All That's Left To Care and the EP's title track Surrender show us the full extent of what Mickey is capable of as an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer.

All in all, Mickey's Surrender EP traverses a great deal of ground in just over 20 minutes of music. While his sound has matured in leaps and bounds since his first record came out in 2016, the spirit behind all of Mickey's work remains the same and he intends to keep making his music even bolder, bigger and most importantly, weirder leading in to 2018.

Born Lion reveal taster track 'Drag' and release date for album 'Celebrate The Lie'

Sydney-based quartet, Born Lion have just unveiled tour dates and a video for ‘Drag’. It's the second track lifted from their forthcoming sophomore studio album ‘Celebrate the Lie’ (due February 16) – produced by Jimmy Balderstone (Luca Brasi, High Tension, Grenadiers) and mixed by Ryan Hazell (The Drones, Green Buzzard).

Carried by its thunderous, dynamic rhythmic section, volcanic riffage and infectious group sing-a-longs, new cut ‘Drag’ delivers on another exciting take of abrasive and unpredictable melodic punk-rock that the band has become widely known for.

Shot in the suburbs of Sydney’s Inner-west by Paste Studios, the accompanying video keeps in line with the theme of the track, by highlighting an absurd situation, where someone is forced to pretend that everything is normal.

The candid narrative sees the protagonist (played by front man John Bowker) attend a blind band audition. It turns out, the members are chickens… mean chickens. During smoko, the lead character pulls out a chicken burger – it doesn’t go well for him after that.

The album’s first single, ‘Evil K’ was widely embraced by the likes of Spotify, Rolling Stone Australia, Music Feeds, The Music, Hysteria Magazine, radio stations FBi, 4ZZZ, 3RRR and triple j - who added the track to spot rotation.

Following on from their ‘Evil K’ headline tour, Born Lion have further traversed the countryside, sharing stages alongside Ecca Vandal, Shihad and Guttermouth. Sydney-based indie rock group CREO debut EP 'Subtitles for X, Y Z'

Sydney-based indie rock group CREO recently released their debut EP ‘Subtitles For X, Y, Z’, five hard-hitting tracks of gripping indie-rock - engineered and produced by Nathan Sheehy (Dune Rats, Birds of Tokyo, Bluejuice). Harnessing structure and dynamics with finesse, the band inhabit songs and make them breathe. Walls of intricate guitars meld with strong rhythmic sections and the endearing vocals of front man Jorjee Haman, to deliver a compelling maiden record.

Haman describes the creative process behind the record –

“The making of this EP was a very cathartic experience.  We decided from day dot that we were going to make a record that would encapsulate the journey we’ve had as a band and young adults to date. So, we allowed the songs to be driven emotionally. I touch on things like my desperation to achieve and prove myself, the constant struggle to find my feet throughout my twenties, and the pressures of juggling an aspiring career as an artist with the (sometimes) burdening responsibilities that come with growing up. To be honest, nutting it all out allowed us to process some of the shit we’ve struggled with, not only as a group but personally”.

The band have also revealed the accompanying music video for the title track - directed and shot by Rod Enriquez at an abandoned and burnt-down school in Western Sydney. Keeping in line with the themes of the song, the location choice aims to capture an apocalyptic-like aesthetic.

“The song is all about escaping the constraints our mind sets on us. The apocalyptic setting is meant to be symbolic of the maze that are those thoughts, and I'm trying to find my way out of it” - says Haman.

Since its release, the song has garnered strong support from the likes of triple j, community radio, worldwide tastemaker blogs and Spotify via their ‘Rock Out’ and ‘Local Noise’ play lists.

“2017 has seen this band step up their game in a huge way. I'm super impressed with what they're doing and this new song could fill big rooms”. – 4/5 Stars

“With big drums, soaring vocal work and stadium-ready guitars, ‘Subtitles For XYZ’ isn't mucking around with its ambition”.
