Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple Unveils Striking Accompanying Video For 'Tomorrow Is Yesterday'
Following on from releasing his critically praised new single ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’, Sydney-based DIY indie-rock artist Timi Temple has just revealed the sombre accompanying music video – shot and directed by the artist himself.
Adding to his growing repertoire of DIY video clips, ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday’ encapsulates the lyrical content of the track, portraying the mundane and often taxing everyday realities, through Groundhog Day-inspired visual storytelling. Created on a budget of just forty dollars, the black-and-white clip was shot throughout parts of the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, using a combination of clever production techniques including drenching his own Go-Pro in coffee and underwater takes shot under a jetty.
Timi describes the creative process behind the clip:
“The concept was originally triggered from my lyric “I’ve got friends on the carriage, but I don’t know their names”. I thought about everyday repeating your steps and you get better and better at doing the same robotic thing. This then led to a Groundhog Day style epiphany where I realised I’m only getting better at doing a thing I don’t want to be doing. Obviously that spurred all these bad memories of things that have happened on my daily commute, like getting sneezed on, getting bird poo on you and coffee spilled on you. I was reminded of a time when someone sneezed on me on a train, instead of berating them and avoiding trains forever, I just brought tissues in my pocket from then on to prepare for someone else. This video is like a dream, going and exacting my revenge on all these people, ha ha!"

Recently debuting with their DIY EP titled k-block, Melbourne smooth wave indie duo Verbrasco, consisting of two 19 year old Uni students Ethan Bowman and Brody Verhagen, have set out to release a collection of easy listening, spaced out songs with memorable melodies and easy going lyrics.
Marty's review: Verbrasco's debut EP is a 3-track collection of beautiful, dream like tunes that have a surrounding ethereal quality and a chill effect which is easily accessible and listenable. These guys are unique and original, and certainly have a handle on creating sounds that are conceptual and creative.

Sydney-based screaming rap-rock-electro-pop mutants Redhook unleash new single ‘Paralysed’
Sydney-based screaming rap-rock-electro-pop mutants RedHook recently unleashed their brand-new single, ‘Paralysed’ - produced by Stevie Knight (Trophy Eyes, Stand Atlantic) and Dave Petrovic (Northlane, Tonight Alive) and mixed by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, The Ghost Inside).
‘Paralysed’ sees the band showcase their more melodic side, twisting their signature cocktail of EDM-influenced production and psychotic riffage with huge dark pop vocals, as singer Emmy Mack turns her aggression inward.
“Anyone who’s ever struggled with their mental health will understand the feeling that this song is about, probably all too well,” Mack explains.
“It shines an ugly but very real spotlight on those dark periods when depression and anxiety is crushing you - and inside you’re just screaming at yourself to snap out of it and get on with business, but physically - you just can’t. It’s like you’re incapacitated, you can’t even move. You’re fighting as hard as you can but you feel paralysed.”

Adelaide-based alternative-rock band Mad Cactus new single "Big Game" and debut EP "Thirteen Dogs"
Adelaide-based alternative-rock band Mad Cactus have recently unveiled their new single ‘Big Game’, lifted from their debut eight-track LP ‘Thirteen Dogs', recorded and produced by Dan Murtaghat of Debasement Studios, Melbourne.
‘Big Game’ takes cues from the likes of the groups staple influences Royal Blood, The Black Keys and SoundGarden. Opening with compelling melodic piano and the endearing vocals of front-man Tim Mellonie, the song builds into a gradual crescendo of brooding guitars and drums, before hitting its monstrous anthemic chorus.
Mellonie describes the motivation behind the track:“Wildlife conservation is something I’m very passionate about and consumes a huge chunk of my life outside of Mad Cactus. As a Keeper working at one of Australia’s largest zoological parks, a strong conservation message was bound to come through somewhere in the music.Throughout my career, I’ve had the unique opportunity to work closely with a range of rare and endangered species including the Southern White Rhino. I wanted to do something a little different with our song Big Game. I wanted to help raise awareness regarding the plight of wild rhinoceros and exposesome of the brutality that comes with the trade of rhino horn.”
Since their inception in late-2014, Mad Cactus have released their debut single ‘Dream Killer’that earned a nomination for ‘Best Heavy Act’ by the South Australian Music Awards(2016). The group have also become a mainstay on the local Adelaide scene playing a slew of gigs and building a loyal following.

RAAVE TAPES unveil angsty new single ‘k bye’ and national tour dates
2016 triple j Unearthed ‘This That’ competition winners and Newcastle crowd favourites, RAAVE TAPES, have just returned with their raucous new single ‘k bye’ and announced national tour dates.
‘k bye’ tells a tale of adolescent debauchery, engulfing the listener in an atmospheric haze reminiscent of a suburban house party. Recorded in a Newcastle basement by close friends Fraser Marshall and Jack Clark, and mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301 (Flume, Empire of the Sun), ‘k bye’ captures the raw energy of the Newcastle-based trio’s notoriously wild live shows.

Front man Joab Eastley describes the inspiration and story behind the song –
“The track was inspired a few years ago at a Newcastle house show ~ when I was a much younger, much more naive version of myself. It was a Sunday night, I had work in the morning, so I was just stopping in on my way home. It's subtly opening a dialogue about the inextricable links between illicit behaviour & underground youth subcultures ~ all wrapped up in a neat little party track. And no, the irony isn't lost on us.”

Indie-Electronic duo Nocturnal Tapes new single single ‘Wake Up’
After announcing the release date for their debut EP ‘Visions IV’ (due August 25), Yamba-based indie-electronic group Nocturnal Tapes offer up another taste of the forthcoming record with new single ‘Wake Up’ – recorded and produced by the duo themselves at their home studio and mixed by Adrian Breakspear (Gang of Youths, Cosmos Midnight, Kučka).
New cut ‘Wake Up’ is an intricate slice of house-infused electronica, taking cues from the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads and Kaytranada. Awash with sonic textures, the dream-laden track glides along effortlessly blending organic and electronic instrumentation, and finished off with the soaring and endearing vocals of front man, Harry Suttor.
Suttor describes the story behind ‘Wake Up’:
“Without getting too dark, the song is about how everything in your life is leading up to the ultimate moment of death; time is a way we all die. So, why are so many of us wasting our lives locked to screens and living in routine?”.
Since their 2016 inception, Nocturnal Tapes have released a slew of tracks strongly embraced by the likes of triple j, Spotify, MTV, ABC’s Rage, community radio and worldwide blogs; which resulted in a top twenty position on the esteemed Hype Machine Now charts.

Indie-Electronic songstress Nikkita Ra debut single 'Unity' and stunning video
Sydney-based indie-electronic songstress, Nikkita Ra, has just unveiled her stunning debut single ‘Unity’ and accompanying music video, shot in downtown Las Vegas.
Former front woman of widely loved hip hop-infused rock band, She Rex, Nikkita has now turned her attention to her solo career. Her impressive first offering melds soft, dreamy vocals likened to Lana Del Rey with ambient instrumentation likened to FKA Twigs, resulting in her own brand of atmospheric indie electronica. The hazy, romantic visuals of the accompanying film clip provide the perfect compliment to the track.
Nikkita describes the inspiration behind the single and video:
“The song is about a couple who get lost in a moment of heightened love and hedonism and make a split decision of mistaken love and romance. I have always loved musical storytellers and have never experimented with it before…I think the song and clip also come from a place inside of me that feels we have been taught false ideals by the media about romanticism and this has been to the detriment of real grown up love. Filmed in Vegas, the capital of hedonism and snap romanticism, it has a slight hat tilt to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or True Romance.”
Nikkita is keeping herself busy in the studio, quietly crafting her debut EP ‘Alexis’ (scheduled for late 2017).

Indie-Dub trio Bootleg Rascal new release 'With You' music video
After releasing and touring their stellar new track ‘With You’ nationally to capacity crowds, Sydney indie-dub trio Bootleg Rascal have just unveiled the accompanying music.
Featuring stunning and eclectic collections of imagery, the clip for ‘With You’ is a departure from previous video productions by the group, by avoiding a traditional narrative. Director and producer Dan Hodgson collaborated with band members to develop a series of short scenes, with the underlying concept drawing inspiration from 2010 science fiction film ‘Inception’ - intending to pull viewers into a state of lucid dreaming.
Guitarist, Jimmy Young further describes the motivation behind the clip:
“Rather than stick to a conventional and cohesive narrative, we wanted the clip to be completely incongruous; jumping from scene-to-scene erratically to accentuate the dream-like experience for viewers. It’s a collection of intriguing standalone shots, which loosely connect in a more underlying and haunting type feel.”
‘With You’ music video is available to view via YouTube now
“‘With You’ is a cross-genre slice of spaced-out soul and groove, with live instruments poking through a haze of lingering vocals and a cracking hook to boot.” Life Without Andy (AUS)
“Take some glowing old school vibes from the 70s and blend them with a snappy modern sensibility… that’s what you get with Bootleg Rascal.” Ear to The Ground Music (USA)
